The area attracts one of the most diverse populations of birds in the United States, with over 200 species identified. At times, Mystic Lake can be an oasis for waterfowl, shorebirds, and songbirds. During winter months, thousands of acres of rare coastal sage scrub surrounding Mystic Lake provide shelter and food for resident and migrating birds. Fishing is popular at Mystic Lake which supports populations of largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish. Hunting is permitted on adjacent public lands administered by the US Fish & Wildlife Service known as the Palen Wildlife Area. Mystic Lake is kept in check by the nearby Lake Perris reservoir and its outlet into the Santa Ana River. Although this lake can dry up during droughts, its proximity to Lake Perris allows for reappearance when rains resume.

The San Jacinto Valley is a location of spectacular bird-watching and outdoor explorations. With its intricate wetlands, native un-polluted creek, and views of the surrounding mountains, wildlife thrives throughout the valley. The 65-foot-tall Tyrannosaurus rex (Mr. Rex) is a roadside attraction at Cabazon Dinosaurs.If you came face to face with this beast in real life, you might be its next lunch. Built out of concrete and steel, the metal beast has been standing guard by the roadside for over 30 years. Although the Cabazon Dinosaurs, formerly Claude Bell’s Dinosaurs, are less than 100 feet tall, they’re not short on entertainment value. Built by local artist and theme park designer Claude Bell in 1964, this pair of real-life behemoths is best known for their cameo appearance in 1985’s comedy adventure, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure. Although the roadside attractions have been upgraded and restored several times since their creation, Dinny the Dinosaur and Mr. Rex continue to attract travelers passing through Southern California on Interstate 10.

The Museum of Pinball is the largest collection of pinball machines on the planet. Whether you’re looking for Pac-Man, Donkey Kong or a golden oldie like Pinball Wizard, this endless emporium will have your fingers twitching with excitement as you marvel at the sheer spectacle that is over 600 playable pinball machines on display.
